Udupi, Jan 20: Thousands of spectators had a memorable evening as they enjoyed 'Raddet Eredde' Tulu drama by Lakumi troupe organized at St Francis Xavier Church, Udyavar here on January 18.
The drama, organized under the leadership of drama steering committee, Udyavar, was held to raise funds for the construction of the new church building.
Prior to the drama, the entire troupe and the audience paid tributes to the late Dharmendra Amin, a member of the troupe who passed away in December 2013, by offering a minute’s silent prayer.
In his address, parish priest Fr Roque D’Souza expressed his gratitude to all kind-hearted donors and people of all religions who had gathered in large numbers to support the cause. He thanked Steevan Colaco, president of drama steering committee, Michael D’Souza, Wilfred and their team who worked hard for the success of the programme.
Later, the parish priest felicitated the troupe owner Lion Kishore D Shetty, noted Tulu actor Arvind Bolar and script writer Tulsidas Manjeshwar. He also felicitated the main sponsor of the event, Hendry D’Almedia along with co-sponsors J P Lights, Udupi, Alwyn and Savitha D’Souza, Cyril D’Souza and family. Cyril and Jessy Lobo were honoured by the church committee.
The guests namely Fr Roque D’Souza, Lawrence D’Souza, vice-president of parish council, Anitha Saldanha, secretary of parish council, businessman Hazi Abdul Jalil Saheb, Udyavar and others were present for the programme.
Scores of fans from various places flocked to the venue to watch the Tulu drama. The crowd was spellbound by the captivating performances of the artistes. The drama was superbly directed by Kishore D Shetty.
Michael D’Souza welcomed the gathering and also compered the stage programme. Steevan Colaco extended the vote of thanks.
