Mangaluru Jan 19: In an alleged act of revenge following a dispute among neighbours, a footwear affixed with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's photograph was found hung on the gate of a house at Mudipodi near Kallapupatla, Thokkottu here on Monday January 19.
The said house belongs to Jayarama Shetty, son of former Mandal chief and senior Congress leader the late Mahabala Shetty.
Jayarama Shetty was not at home when the incident was discovered.
As per reports, Jayarama's house lies in the midst of the estate and in a lower altitude compared to other 50 houses in the area. Hence the waste water from these houses flow towards Jayarama's house which has contaminated the water from his well and pond. Jayarama had complained to the municipality and the district administration regarding this.
Health officials had also confirmed about the contamination. As no action was taken from any quarters, Jayarama made his own arrangement to stop the water from reaching his well.
Some of his neighbours reportedly had dispute with him regarding this issue. Recently a group of people had even allegedly threatened him by brandishing wooden sticks. Now, Anusuya Shetty, the mother of Jayarama says that a few youngsters did this humiliating act of hanging the footwear with the PM's photo to take revenge.
Ullal police station officer Savithra Taja, sub-inspector Bharathi and Shanthi D'Souza, the municipal member visited the place. Shanthi D'Souza promised appropriate action in the matter.
Chief municipal officer Roopa T Shetty visited the place and said, "I have visited this place three times after Jayarama Shetty complained. We could not do anything due to legal hurdles. Last time we used bleaching powder to purify the waste water. Within two months we will find a permanent solution. Presently we are inserting rings to the well."
No police complaint has been registered.
