Kundapur, Jan 17: In a serial accident reported here on Saturday January 17, a Santro car hit a parked car and two two-wheelers before ramming into a shop. Two persons were injured in the incident.
The car was moving from Kundapur via Chickensal road, when its driver lost control and hit a car parked beside the road. It then moved back on to the main road and again hit two two-wheelers parked in front of Sri Ganesh Stores and hit the wall of the shop.
The incident occurred at Kundapur old bus stand. Kundapur resident Ramesh was driving the car. Koteshwar resident Diwaker who standing near the bus stand was injured in the incident.
It is said that the Santro driver failed to stop his even after hitting the parked car. As the car was at high speed, the driver was not able to control the car and it hit a Scooty parked in front of Ganesh Stores near the old bus stand. A girl standing near the Scooty sustained minor injuries. The car went further and hit another two-wheeler and hit the wall of the shop before coming to a complete halt. The two-wheeler was damaged as it came under the wheels of the car.
Further damage averted: Saturday is the day of the weekly market when people flock to the area in large numbers. Usually, hundreds of school children stand here waiting for buses as schools and colleges have holiday in the afternoon. The locals said that it was fortunate that not many people were at the spot when the accident took place, or the tragedy would have been greater.
The locals have alleged that the regular traffic policeman was absent even though the area is usually crowded on Saturdays. The locals and daily commuters have urged the authorities to deploy a policeman here in order to prevent confusion among vehicles and pedestrians.
Kundapur traffic police have registered a case against the Santro driver.
