Mangaluru: Kudremukh iron ore company employees give memorandum to CM

Mangaluru, Jan 17: Kudremukh iron ore company employees under the leadership of the member of the legislative council Ivan D'souza met chief minister Siddaramaiah and submitted the memorandum on his visit to Mangaluru.

This was revealed by a Member of the legislative council Ivan D'souza at a press meet held in Mangaluru on January 17. Kudremukh iron ore company was started in 1976. It was termed as one of the best iron ore companies. More than 10,000 families earned their living from the company. It closed down as per orders issued by the supreme court in December 2005.

In later years the company started buying iron ore from distant places like Chattisgarh and Kirandoor.

The Mangaluru unit continued its operations but this turned out to be uneconomical for the company. Thus the company pressurized its employees to take voluntary retirement and more number of employees got transfered to other states. The rest of the employees were sent to other companies on contract basis.

From 2005 onwards, the issue was brought to the notice of different governments, but this has not made a difference.There is land alloted to Kudremukh iron ore company in Ramanadurga of Bellary district, but till now this land has not been given to the company.

Member of Legislative council, Ivan D'souza visited the company and taking into consideration the situation of the company he called the employees. To protect their interests it was decided that they meet the chief minister on his visit to Mangaluru on January 16. According to this, the district administration minister B Ramanatha Rai, minister Abhayachandra Jain, MLA Moideen Bava, J R lobo, Mayor Mahabal Maarla and district INTUC office bearers met the CM and submitted the memorandum.

The chief minister responded positively. He assured them that he will take necessary action for the survival of the Mangaluru unit of Kudremukh iron ore company and in this direction a decision will be taken shortly after the meeting with the company official and secretary level.

INTUC general secretary Sadashiv Shetty, president Manohar Shetty and the vice president Kenche Gowda were the others present at the event.
