Bengaluru, Jan 16: The decision taken by chairman of the state legislative council, D H Shankara Murthy, to reconsider his earlier ruling relating to placing inquiry report on disposal of Wakf properties before the council has angered many BJP leaders. The BJP was hoping to floor Congress leaders, who allegedly were involved with disposal of Wakf properties worth crores of rupees. But the promise made by the council chairman to Congressmen to review his earlier ruling has disappointed them, it is said.
In July last year, the council chairman had given the ruling that the report on Wakf property disposal would be tabled in the house. However, after law minister, T B Jayachandra, raised this topic during the Belagavi session, he said he would review the ruling. The BJP leaders feel that this would deprive the BJP leaders of a chance to humiliate Congress leaders, who they allege, had disposed off Wakf properties, although such disposal does not have legal sanction.
It is learnt that this matter was discussed with BJP national president, Ait Shah, during his visit to the city recently. Shah reportedly advised them to impress upon the council chairman, who is from BJP, to take a considered stand on the issue.
Former chairman of Karnataka State Minorities Commission, Answar Manippady, during the period BJP government was in power, had submitted the report, alleging that Wakf property worth over two lac crores of rupees had been illegally sold during the period of previous Congress governments.
