Mangaluru, Jan 16: Fire broke out at Wenlock hospital here shortly before the arrival of health minister U T Khadar and medical education minister Dr Sharan Prakash Patil.
The fire broke out in the CT scan room reportedly due to short circuit in the air-conditioner wiring.
The hospital's safety officers swung into action and soon extinguished the fire. Thick smoke engulfed the CT scan room. A fire engine was also pressed into action.
Luckily, the fire did not spread to the CT scanner or other equipment. Except for the AC which was charred, no major damage or injuries was reported.
About 15 minutes after the fire incident, Khadar and Dr Patil arrived at the hospital and held discussions with the staff, superintendent and interacted with patients. Khadar also inspected the CT scan room and gathered information about the fire incident.
Speaking to reporters, Khadar said the cause for the fire was short circuit and that he has asked the officials to repair it at the earliest.
On the launch Bharatiya Hindu Parishat (BHP) by Puttur block Congress president, Khadar said, "BHP has not been formed by the Congress. If someone individually has launched the outfit, then its intention will be looked upon. Organizations that do good work are welcome. Any religion or community can have its own organization, there is no harm in it, as long as everyone lives in peace and harmony.
