Mysuru, Jan 10: Incident that came into open with delay, a woman sold her kidney for meeting demand for money placed by government officials to set right her land records. The victim in this case is Chikkathayamma (55), wife of Doddaiah, from Kalisiddanahundi village in the taluk.
Chikkathayamma said that after the demise of her father, Chikkanamade Gowda, she had to set right land records of her father. In the process, the revenue officials demanded bribe, and she said, she was compelled to sell one of her kidneys at Bengaluru for Rs 80,000. She needed to shell out money heavily as her father had four acres of land that was inherited, and some more land that he had bought when alive.
Chikkathayamma said that the revenue officials had changed ownership records of the land bought by her father in someone else's name, and when she asserted her right on them, the revenue official demanded bribe at the rate of Rs 8,000 per acre. As she did not have enough money to pay, she said she went to Bengaluru and sold one kidney for Rs 80,000 in a private hospital.
She however refused to field question on where she sold her kidney, who acted as middleman, etc. She promised to reveal everything once the revenue records are set right.
