Moodbidri, Jan 8: “Music connects the world and music is the realization of God and realization of art and culture,” said Ustad Amjad Ali Khan on Thursday January 8.
He was speaking after receiving the ‘Alva’s Virasat 2015 Award’ at Alva’s College.
He also said, “In the 21st century, we expected peace and harmony because we have acquired so much education and super science. But we still kill people on account of religion. In our family, we feel connected with every soul and religion through music. We feel that we have a common God and a common race.” Khan said that he was humbled to see Dr Mohan Alva’s contribution to the field of education and Ayurveda.
State minister B Ramanath Rai, who inaugurated the event, in his address said, “Virasat is a unique programme which exhibits the art and culture of this nation. This programme will exhibit talents and the culture of artists in an innovative way to the people of society.”
Praising Dr Alva he said, “Dr Mohan Alva is an alternate name for Moodbidri. He has achieved a great deal in the field of education through his efforts and talent. This great extravaganza involved all classes of people in the society.”
Dr N Vinay Hegde, president, NITTE Education Trust, in his address, lauding Dr Alva for his immense contribution to the field of education, art, culture, and sports, said, “Alvas is one of the best campuses in the field of education in the country. It is impossible to describe Dr Alva’s contribution. He is unique and exceptional in his field. Through his immense contribution to the field of education, he has created many tolerant, great personalities".
Dr Alva welcomed the guests. Subhalakshmi Khan, wife of Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, V S Krishna Kumar, executive director of Canara Bank, Bangalore, P Jayaram Bhat, MD of Karnataka Bank, Nadija Dr G Shankar, president of G Shankar Family Trust, Dr M N Rajendra Kumar, president of SCDCC Bank, Amarnath Shetty, Suresh Bhandary, and Capt Ganesh Karnik were also present.
