Mangaluru, Dec 29: Confusion and chaos arose for sometime at PM Rao Road here on Monday December 29 after a person, reportedly in an inebriated state, climbed an electric pole and created a scene.

The identity of the man is not yet known, but he is said to be from another city or town.

Police sources said that he came by train to the city and was robbed of all his money as soon as he arrived here. Growing desperate at his loss, he got himself heavily drunk, sources said.

The man then went to PM Rao Road and climbed an electric pole, allegedly in a bid to commit suicide.

An eyewitness said that a lady at a nearby shop who saw the man climbing the pole immediately informed Mescom, and the power line was cut off at once to prevent electrocution.

The Mescom personnel rushed to the spot and after some coaxing, succeeded in rescuing the man.

He was then taken to Wenlock hospital for checkup.
