Foreigner arrested for illegal stay in Goa

Panaji, Dec 28 (IANS): A foreigner, believed to be a Nigerian national, has been booked for overstaying in Goa without proper documents, police said Saturday.

James Ikechukwu was found staying at the Calangute beach village, 20 km from state capital Panaji "without a visa and passport" when he was accosted by police Friday night.

"The accused could show us no travel documents, as a result of which he was booked under relevant sections of the Passport Act and the Foreigners Act. The Nigerian embassy is being notified," a police spokesperson said.

Nearly 30 foreigners, most of them believed to be Nigerians, have been arrested in Goa over the last one year either for overstaying or failing to produce travel documents.
