Udupi, Dec 27: Congress leader B Janardhan Poojary on Saturday December 27 criticized the move by a Hindu outfit in Meerut to build a temple in the name of Mahatma Gandhi's assassin Nathuram Godse, and said that Godse is being unnecessarily glorified in front of the media.
"A ruthless killer like Nathuram Godse is being glorified in front of the media and the society. What is the need to have a temple for such a person?" Poojary said at a press meet here, while also stressing on the principles of Mahatma Gandhi.
"Indians are propagating wrong message to the world by indulging in such works as building temple for Godse. There is no doubt that India is moving towards destruction. The members of the Hindu outfits have to answer if Godse is a god. What is the actual mean of ‘Dharma and truth?’" he questioned.
"Modi is working with the development mantra, but internal clashes will hinder development and ruin people's peace of mind," he added.
He appreciated Prime Minister Narendra Modi for conferring the Bharat Ratna award on former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Banaras Hindu University founder and educationist Madan Mohan Malviya.
"Vajpayee was a strong political leader and he fostered unity and harmony among people during his term. But now our nation is in a state of terror and there is less scope for creating communal harmony," he said.
Strongly objecting to the concept of conversion, he said, "If conversion happens through lure or by force, it becomes an illegal act. The accused should be punished according to the law.
"PM Modi should pass a law to stop conversion. At present the Bill is in the court. Only then can we achieve harmony nationally," he added.
Poojary advised PM Modi to watch Aamir Khan's 'PK' movie and said, "The film conveys a good message on how unity can be achieved through adjustment and understanding each other."
"There are some communalists in our own group, who are hindering the progress of the Congress party," he said, without naming anyone.
"I am ready to join hands to build a peaceful society. Poojary might have failed a little in politics but inside, he is a good person," he said.
Narasimha Murthy, Bhaskar Rao, Sanjiva Moily and Harish Kini were present.
