Puttur, Dec 26: Eighteen persons were injured after a KSRTC bus rolled off the road and fell into the Netravati river at Uppinangady here on Friday December 26.
The KSRTC sleeper bus travelling from Bengaluru towards Udupi fell into river at around 4.30 am. The reason for the accident is not yet known.
There were 32 passengers travelling in the bus, out of whom 14 passengers are said to be safe.
Since it was dark with few vehicles moving on the road, only the lorry and bus operators could come to the rescue of the passengers. They helped in sending the injured to the hospitals in time.
The impact of the accident was such that the front tyre of the bus came off the bus. Luckily, as this portion of the river is almost dry, the magnitude of the accident was less.
The injured have been identified as Prakash, Vishwas, Sarojamma, Smitha, Ratnamma, Raghunath Nayak, Vinodkumar, Benedicta D’Souza and Babanna Nayak. They have been admitted to Puttur hospital.
Janet Machado, Sunil Machado, Stephania Machado, Steve Machado, Muralidhar and Yamuna have been admitted to Pragathi hospital.
Uppinangady police have registered the case.
