Washington, Dec 24 (IANS): The Major League Baseball (MLB) Players Association announced that the average salary of a player increased to $3,818,923 from $3,386,212 last year.
The 12.78 percent growth was the biggest since a 12.83 percent rise 13 years ago, reports Xinhua.
Much of the increase came from national television contracts and club deals with regional sports networks.
The average US wage only rose 1.3 percent in 2013 to $43,041, according to the Social Security Administration.
By using slightly different methods, the commissioner's office put its average at $3,726,243. MLB revised its figure Tuesday from an original average of $3,692,123 which was calculated last week.
