‘Daiji Puroskar-2007’ to be conferred on Wilfy Rebimbus
Dubai, December 4: ‘Daiji Dubai’ - the forum of Konkani writers in the UAE - has announced its prestigious ‘Daiji Puroskar’ for the year 2007. 'Konkan Kogull' Wilfy Rebimbus, well-known Konkani lyricist, short story-writer, playwright residing in Mangalore gets the honour.
One of the most reputable awards in Konkani literature was announced by Daiji Dubai functionaries soon after their meeting held on Sunday evening.
The award which carries a citation, a memento and a purse of Rs 50,000, will be presented at Daiji Anniversary celebration which will be held in April 2007 in Dubai.
Previous recipients of Daiji Puroskar, which was initiated in 2000, are: Cyril G Sequeira (CGS Takode) -2000, J.C. Veigas (Sirivont) – 2001, Gladys Rego – 2002, Edwin J.F. D’Souza – 2003, Jerry Kulshekar – 2004, J.B. Moraes – 2005 and Victor Rodrigues – 2006.
After two months of deliberations, the Daiji Puroskar Samiti chaired by Poet Melvyn Rodrigues and members MP Rodrigues, Andrew L D’Cunha, Nanu Marol and Pius James, had recommended 3 names to the Daiji general body for consideration for next year’s prestigious Daiji Award. The Daiji general body, consisting of 29 members, through ballot made the final selection of Wilfy Rebimbus.
For most of the people Wilfy is well known as a singer. But through this award, he will be honoured for his literature too. His lyrics are not less than any poems and must be studied from the literary point of view. Their effect on society has been immense. His plays, short stories are of great quality. Wilfy’s contribution to Konkani Mother is unforgettable and will remain forever in the annals of Konkani literature, Daiji Puroskar Samiti felt.
Wilfy was overwhelmed, when the convener of Daiji Dubai, Hemacharya, conveyed the message to Wilfy Rebimbus immediately after the meeting. He thanked everyone at Daiji Dubai for selecting him for this prestigious award.
