Mangaluru, Dec 16: The Karnataka Beary Sahitya Academy will confer its annual honorary awards on Prof B M Ichlangod, B A Shamshuddin and Mohammed Beary Yedapadavu for the year 2014.

President of Karnataka Beary Sahitya Academy, B A Mohammed Haneef, said that a function will be organized on January 10, 2015 in Chikmagalur in association with Chikmagalur District Beary Union to hand over honorary awards and honour the achievers for the year 2014.

The Sammelan will be held at 10 am at Okkaligara Sabahavana on the above date, while presentation ceremony will begin at 3 pm that day.

The honorary award in the field of Beary language research will go to Prof B M Ichlangod and the literary award will be presented to B A Shamshuddin. Mohammed Beary Yedapadavu has been chosen in the field of literature, art, and education, Haneef said.

Mariam Ismail, Ismail Azad Moodigere, Prof A M Sridharan and Ummer Farooq Bikkodu have been chosen for honours under literature. K Mohammed Mandagadde (country defence), Moidin Kunhi Gardadi (health), Azala Ayub, B H Noor Mohammed (social service) and Mohammed Iqbal Katipalla (music) are the other persons who will receive awards in different categories, he added.

Prof Ichlangod has written many works and has also translated the Quran. He has worked in various colleges in the undivided Dakshina Kannada. He has also been a consumer rights activist.

Shamshuddin too has written many works in the Beary language. That apart, he has worked as a journalist for many publications in Madikeri.

Mohammed Beary worked for the Syndicate Bank for 22 years. He established Ideal English Medium School at Yedapadavu and has been the president of the Federation of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi district English Medium Schools. He is also the president of the committee of families of victims of Mangaluru air crash.
