Mangaluru, Dec 12: The city crime branch police on Friday December 12 arrested two persons who were plotting to carrying out a robbery.
The accused, Ashfaq (24), and Mohammed Rafiq alias Thote Rafiq (42), both residents of Gurupur, were arrested from Nantoor.
The police seized a sharp weapon, a fake revolver, three live bullets, and two mobile phones from the accused.
Another 5-6 persons who were with accused managed to escape.
Among the accused, Ashfaq had been arrested four years ago in a connection to the stabbing of a youth at Bajpe. He was granted bail by the court, after which he went abroad and absconded. He returned to Mangaluru about two years ago, but instead of appearing in court, he went into hiding. The Bajpe police have an arrest warrant against him.
The operation was conducted on the direction of police commissioner R Hitendra, under the guidance of DCP (law and order) Dr K V Jagadish, DCP (crime) Vishnuvardhan, and led by CCB inspector Valentine D'Souza. PSI Shyamsunder and other police personnel were part of the team.
