The doctors at Badyar hospital asked the family to shift him to a hospital in Mangaluru, but by then his condition had worsened and he could not be saved.
Family sources said that as per the doctors who examined him in the hospital in Mangaluru, Kiran had been given a medicine that had strong reaction on him. As a result, his nervous system was affected, it is learnt.
Incidentally, his mother Leelavati too had been admitted to the same Badyar hospital about 6 months ago, and she too had a sudden death in the hospital, sources said.
A case has been filed in Beltangady police station in this regard.
As the news spread, a huge protest was organized, and around 500 people led by Praja Prabhutva Vedike chief Mahesh Shetty Thimarody gathered in front of the hospital and protested.
The protestors alleged that several such incidents of medical negligence had taken place in the Badyar hospital, but the local administration has failed to take any action. They demanded the immediate resignation and arrest of the doctor responsible for Kiran's death.
Speaking to daijiworld, Beltangady MLA Vasanth Bangera, who is in Belagavi for the ongoing winter session of the Legislative Assembly, said that he would order a probe into the case by Saturday December 13.
When asked why no action was taken despite allegations of medical negligence in the past at the same hospital, he replied, "I have come to know for sure that doctor's negligence led to death in this case. Hence, action will be taken."
