Puttur, Dec 9: The Nellyady and Uppinangady police raided a lodge at Nellyady here on Tuesday December 9 and detained a youth and a girl. The girl later alleged that the youth had lured her with lies.
Based on credible information, the police raided the lodge located at Kokkada Jodumarga, and detained the girl, a student of second PU from Sullia, and the youth identified as Pawan Kumar Bhandary, a resident of Kedila.
It is said that on Tuesday morning, Pawan brought the girl to the lodge, reportedly telling the staff there that she was his younger sister. He also reportedly told them that four more of their 'family members' were expected at the lodge, and asked the staff to send them to girl's and his room once they arrive.
Also, some of the youths in Kadaba area had kept an eye on Pawan's movements and followed him to the lodge, sources said, and later informed the Nellyady outstation police. The police then raided the lodge and detained the pair.
During interrogation, the girl reportedly claimed that Pawan had brought her to the lodge by telling some lies and that she was unaware of his motives.
As the news spread, nearly 500 people gathered in front of the lodge. Sensing that the situation may go out of hand, the police led by Uppinangady SI Jagadish Reddy took security measures.
When questioned, Pawan is said to have initially tried misleading the police with falsehood, but later reportedly the spilled the beans.
The locals alleged that Pawan has been involved in similar cases before, luring unsuspecting girls into undesirable activities. They demanded a thorough investigation over these allegations.
