Mangaluru, Dec 8: Kalakul, the only Konkani theatre repertory, presented its 14th play ‘Romeo Juliet’, a classic Shakespearean romantic tragedy, on Sunday December 7 as part of the 156th monthly theater of Mandd Sobhann.
The play has been translated by Arun Raj Rodrigues and directed by Christopher D’Souza Neenasam.
The audience was captivated throughout the play by the talented artistes of Kalakul, namely Arun Tauro, Veena Pais, Nishma D’Souza, Hanley Coelho, Sandeep Tellis, Preetham Rodrigues, Jeethan Rego, Clenwin Fernandes, Lester Menezes, Melwyn Pais, Sandeep Mascarenhas, Roshini Goveas and Malcon Rego.
Rohan Lobo provided the music and Nach Sobhann supported.
Prior to the play, renowned Konkani author Gladys Rego was felicitated at the ‘Bho'nddar Bho'rchem Karyem' by Dr Prashanth Madtha for having donated her entire collection of over 3,500 books to the Dr Austin D’Souza Prabhu Library of Mandd Sobhann. She was honoured with a shawl, saree, dry fruits, garland and citation.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Madtha urged Gladys Rego to write her autobiography so that people may be inspired by her experience in life. Gladys Rego said that she decided to donate her entire collection to Mandd Sobhann because of its dedicated service to Konkani language and culture.
Mandd Sobhann president, Louis J Pinto, secretary Kishore Fernandes and coordinator, Stany Alvares were present on dais.
