Bollywood seems like Hollywood of 20 years ago: Serbian filmmaker

Mumbai, Nov 7 (IANS): European filmmaker Goran Paskaljevic, who is all set to make "Dev Bhoomi", the first Indo-Serbian co-production, says Bollywood is what Hollywood was two decades ago.

"Time to time I see some of Bollywood films, I think the audience has increased and they want to see something different. I enjoy Bollywood films, but what I feel is that Bollywood seems like Hollywood 20 years ago," Paskaljevic told IANS.

"France and Paris are fantastic, they are fighting for quality films. They are doing well," added the filmmaker who has made 30 documentaries and 16 feature films.

Paskaljevic made an official announcement about "Dev Bhoomi" at the 16th Mumbai Film Festival along where he headed the India Gold jury.

"Dev Bhoomi", which will star Victor Banerjee, will narrate the homecoming of a 65-year-old man who decides to return from England to his village in Garhwal in India after finding out that his vision is fading away. He wants to take one last look at the world he ran away from 40 years ago.

Talking about the subject, he said: "Garhwal is an untapped area and it's similar to the area that I come from. I come from Seria and I know it's a different religion, with different situations, but people are the same and their emotions are the same.

"I really fell in love with Uttarakhand. I will try to cast a lot of local people."

The film will be entirely shot in Uttarakhand.

Supported by ministry of culture, government of Serbia, "Dev Bhoomi" will be produced by Milan Markovic.

In the film Paskaljevic will have music by flute legend Pt Hariprasad Chaurasia.
