CHENNAI, Nov 2: Middle East's low cost airlines Air Arabia on Thursday launched its daily direct flight from Sharjah to Chennai.

The cost of the ticket, which had been fixed at Rs 3,800 (about 320 Dhs) exclusive of taxes and surcharges, would be cheaper by 30 per cent compared to other airlines, Air Arabia CEO Alel Ali said.

Chennai was the fifth destination for the airlines in India, he said adding the Gulf-India market was one of the fastest growing ones.

The fleet strength of his airlines would go to ten next year, when the carrier would add two airbuses.

The company proposes to augment its fleet by acquiring three or four air buses in 2008, he said.

On the fate of low cost carriers, he said the future belonged to these airlines as already, they had captured 23 per cent of air traffic globally, he said.

The Company was eager to expand its services to tier-II cities in India, he added.
