Mangalore, Nov 2: ‘Bhitti Chittara’, a programme to bring about awareness among children on folk art was organized by Chinmaya Educational Institute and Bharath Beedi Works.

The chief guests were B Ganapathy Pai, director of Bharath Beedi Works and vice- president of Chinmaya Educational Institute, Prof M B Puranik, president and founder of Sharada Educational Institute, P N Acharya, member of Karnataka Lalitha Kala Academy, Bangalore and artist in MAHE Manipal,  Vithal Das Baliga, founder of Chinmaya Educational Institute, Kalanidhi Gopadkar, artist and founder of Swaroopa Research Group. Mukundraj, a singer and teacher of Chinmaya, welcomed the chief guests with a song consisting of their names. Vimala R Rao, headmistress of the Chinmaya Educational Institute, welcomed the gathering and P N Acharya inaugurated the programme.

Puranik, speaking about the inner power of the children said that they can achieve anything in life with hard work. He also appreciated the teachers who worked for the programme to make it a success.

Taranath, a teacher at Chinmaya, spoke about the staff, teachers and others, who worked day in-and-day-out to make the program a success.

Acharya told the gathering that parents and teachers would like their children to be on top of the world. So this is a right type of program which will increase the morale and creativity of the children.

Gopadkar was happy to see that the students used a new tool that was ‘wall’ to show their artistic skill. He also gave examples of  northern Karnataka and Gujarat, where such forms of art is found on the floor and on the wall respectively, which gives richness to our folk art.

Pai said that he felt such programmes should go everywhere and the art should spread all over the places, decorating the town with the beauty of the art.

At the end the students of Chinmaya painted on the walls with the help of brush and white paint.
