National ranking TT commences in Agra


Agra, Nov 5 (IANS): For the first time here, a sports event will see 580 players from all over India participate in a national ranking table tennis tournament at the Eklavya Stadium.

Sponsored by Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) and supported by Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI), the meet opens Wednesday and will continue for the next six days with around 2,000 matches to be played.

Top national players like Subhajit Saha, G. Sathyan, Harmeet Desai, Puja Sahastrabuddhe, Manika Batra, Poulomi Ghatak, Mouma Das, Anthony Amalraj among others would be seen in action.

Organising secretary Vijay Singh said individual men's and women's competitions will begin Nov 7 with the final scheduled for Nov 10.

The venue in Agra Cantonment has been given a fresh look with a dozen tables procured from TTFI.
