Mumbai, Oct 31: Dusky beauty Bipasha Basu, chat show host Pooja Bedi and bollywood hunk John Abraham today kickstarted the Lakme Fashion Week (LFW) here at the NCPA in Mumbai.
In a first of sorts, designer Narendra Kumar, an aluminus of the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) will present two shows as a part of the LFW. While his menswear show was the opening show today, his womenswear collections are slated to be showcased on November three.
The spring/summer 2007 menswear collection is a tongue-in-cheek look at the recent explosion of the Indian art scene and its myriad implications with everyone wanting a piece of the pie.
''The collection draws its inspiration from the abstract art of Jackson Pollack and the cubist movement through the works of George Braque. It includes prints developed in house with a take on the ubiquitous symbol of Indianness, the Ambassador taxi amongst others,'' Kumar said.
The heart-throb of millions, John Abraham said, ''I think Kumar's collection is exceptional. I am not saying this because I am wearing them. Narendra has designed my clothes for my forthcoming film 'Babul'. He strikes the right balance between formals and casuals. The clothes are superb and have perfect synchrony.''
