Mumbai, Oct 18: A three-day national seminar on ‘Gyan Pith Awardees and their Works’ was recently organized by the Gurudeva Tagore Chair of Comparative Literature at the Kavivarya Kusumagraja Marathi Bhasha and Sahitya Bhavan, Vidyanagari Campus of the University of Mumbai at Kalina, here. The seminar was held as part of the 150th anniversary celebrations of the University of Mumbai
On the occasion, governor S M Krishna honoured eminent author and Gyan Pith awardee Dr U R Ananthamurthy.
Other Gyan Pith awardees who were honoured were D Jayakantan (Tamil), C N Reddy (Telugu), Vinda Karandikar (Marathi), Rajendra Shah (Gujarati), Gurudayal Singh (Punjabi) and Indira Goswami (Assamese).
Dr Vijay Khole, vice-chancellor, Mumbai University, introduced the people who were honoured on the occasion. Dr Taltaje Vasanth Kumar, head of Kannada department, Mumbai University, was present along with other Kannada scholars. Dr Uma Vaidya welcomed the gathering and compered the programme. Dr H Thorat proposed the vote of thanks.
