Mangalore, Sep 28: On the occasion of World Heart Day celebrations 2014, KMC Hospital entered the Asia Book of Records by attempting the largest heartbeat simulation here at TMA Pai Convention Centre, on Sunday, September 28.
For the 10th consecutive year, Kasturba Medical College (KMC) Hospital, Mangalore organised the World Heart Day Run in the city on Sunday as part of World Heart Day celebrations.
Well-known South Indian Actress Sharmila Mandre was special guest for the event.
Medical superintendent of KMC Hospital, Dr Anand Venugopal said, "KMC Hospital is celebrating World Heart Day for the tenth consecutive year and this year it is a special because we are attempting the largest heartbeat simulation and enter into Asia Book of Records".
Adjudicator from the Asia Book of Records Sunita Dhote was present on the occasion and explained the rules of how to register into Asia Book of Records.
The spirit of the participants was amazing. The participants had to beat their hands on the side of their thighs and emulate the heartbeat 'lab dab', creating the sound of a healthy heartbeat.
In all, 1, 500 people were required to enter in Asia Book of Record but there were more than 3,000 participants at the venue to celebrate World Hear Day celebration.
After the attempt, the World Heart Day run was flagged off by Clifford Joshua, the national champion and athlete. He was the torch bearer for the event. It commenced from TMA Pai Convention Centre and proceeded via MG Road, PVS Circle, Bunts Hostel Rd and concluded at Ambedkar Circle, Jyothi.
The participants received many prizes such as the 'Best Corporate Participation', 'Best Institution Participation, 'Best Placard', 'Best Slogan Shouting' and 'Youngest and Eldest Participant on the occasion.
Pro-vice chancellor Dr V Surendra Shetty, dean Dr M Venkatraya Prabhu, dean dental College Dilip Nayak, Saghir Siddiqui, unit head KMC, Dr R L Kamath HOD Dept of cardiology among others were present on the occasion.
