Bangalore, Sep 25: Kanara Entrepreneurs (KE) conducted a speaking skills development workshop for children coined as 'Speech Craft.'
The speech craft programme was conducted recently at Vidya Deep College. There were nine weekly sessions with 15 enthusiastic students participating in the workshop. They were aged between 12-20 years.
Initially, the students had their own fears and inhibitions to face the audience and speak. On the first day, they were all excited and nervous to get to know about the programme. The president of Kanara Entrepreneurs, Mark D'Souza inaugurated the workshop and spoke about the benefits and advantages of the Speech Craft session. During the second session, the students were asked to prepare their ice breaker speech. They were nervous, yet excited to speak. Each one of them prepared their speech with earnestness.
In the next session, these students learnt to organize their speech with ease. All the students emerged as passionate, prepared and confident speakers towards the end. They learnt about vocal variety, the importance of gestures, persuading and inspiring the audience with their personal incidents and experiences. All the sessions improved their speaking abilities and made them forget their nervousness.
In the last session, a contest was held for all the participants. This was to create a real life public speaking situation. The meeting was well organized and Rajdeep Manwani, president of Bangalore Toastmasters Club as the chief guest.
The judges were Vijay Anand, Alan Aranha and Santhosh Jagtap from the Bangalore Toastmasters Club. The parents of these students were so thrilled, happy and proud to see their children speak so confidently. They thanked KE for providing them this opportunity at a young age and the felt that this would go a long way in not only developing public speaking skills, but also their leadership and communication skills.
The participants mentioned how they grew their confidence in public speaking. One of the participants mentioned, “My parents had to initially force me to come to this workshop. For the first few days, I dreaded attending the sessions. However, today, I am really happy that I participated in the Speech Craft Program. It has taught me a lot.”
The true meaning of life is not winning or losing but learning. In the words of Payal Bhulani, the trainer who ably conducted the workshop, “This wonderful experience will be etched on the tablets of my memory never to be obliterated.”
