Mangalore, Sep 23: Anveeksha – 2014, a symposium on Innovation Management was organized on Friday September 19 from 9.30 am to 4.30 pm with the primary objective of addressing the concept of innovation to the students of IT department.
The symposium covered different issues and new development related to innovation in terms of the products and services and exploring major successes, challenges, limitations and opportunities facing the process of stirring and sustaining the innovation. The resource persons for the day were Lucas Cary D’souza, director and CEO, Tucker Infocom Services PVT. LTD, Panaji, Dikshith Rai, founder and CEO, CodeCraft Technologies Pvt. LTD, Mangalore, Issac Sikha, Counselor, Mangalore and Dilesh Deepak Datani, senior consultant, Infosys, Mangalore.
The symposium began with the formal inaugural function at 9.30 am led by the MCs of the day, Saniha Menezes and Nadeen Saldanha. The chief guest for the function was Lucas Cary D’Souza. The other guests present for the function were Fr Pradeep, Administrator, AIMIT, professor Santhosh Rebello, Dean, Department of IT, Ruban S and Vanitha, faculty co-ordinators along with the student coordinators Adil Sheik and Sanketh Salian.
The function began with the prayer followed by lighting of the lamp. Ruban S welcomed the gathering and also mentioned the importance of Anveeksha - 2014. Lucas, the chief guest addressed the students and briefed us on how the innovation brings a change. Then, Fr Pradeep in his presidential speech, told the students that they need to think beyond innovation. He encouraged the students on how to continue even after a failure. He also told to be happy all the time even in the time of failure and to live freely rather than living under pressure. The function concluded with the vote of thanks by Adil Sheik.
The first session of the day was 'Need of the Hour' handled by Lucas D’souza. He spoke about what the innovation is, how we can innovate things, how we can be a change in the society and to the world. He guided us on some of the things that most of the successful people in the world does not do. He also shared the different experiences he has experienced in his life. He told us the importance of the hard work and determination. The main highlight of the session was his entrepreneurial journey and how he is been a part of the innovative world. At the end of his session he also showed the students some videos that motivated everyone.
The second session was by Dilesh Datani on 'Innovation Management.' The resource person was very dynamic and made it very interactive. His session threw light on what is innovation and what exactly is innovation management. He explained the steps involved in innovation management process and the innovation management funnel. He made the students realize how we can be a part of the innovation as the employees of the organization. He ended the session by encouraging us to participate in various competition that makes us innovative and gives a room for creative problem solving. During the course of his session, he answered questions raised by the audience. As an answer for one of the questions, he told us how a student can put innovative thinking in the class room assignments and projects. He also shared on how as a student he was innovative in college with the example of his own experience.
The third session of the session was taken by Issac Sikha on 'Innovation and Positive Attitudes.' He began the session with the definition of the innovation. He told the students about the important qualities one must have to be an innovator. He stressed that to bring a change or to think innovatively, the attitude of the person matters a lot. He briefed us about the how environment, experiment, and education are the factors that affect positive attitude of the person. The highlights of the sessions are:
1. The personality traits of the positive attitude person
2. Advantages of the positive attitude person
3. Consequences of the negative attitude person
4. Steps to change attitude
The session was filled with laughter, fun and learning. He took the whole session humorously teaching the values of life.
The final session of the day was taken by Dikshith Rai on 'Innovation for sustainability.' He talked about how a person can be innovative in little things. Being an entrepreneur, he gave an example of the Taxi Reservation Mobile App that was very innovative. He talked more on other factors that sustain you for long time to be part of an enterprise. At the end of his talk, he answered the questions raised by many students.
Anveeksha – 2014 came to an end at 4.30 pm with the National Anthem.
