Kundapur, Sep 17: An Omni car that was said to have been illegally transporting cattle in the wee hours of Wednesday September 17 was intercepted by locals near Kappehonda near Amasebail here. The accused escaped from the spot leaving the vehicle behind.
It is said that the locals, on getting definite information about the transport of cows from Hengavalli in Amasebail to Kundapur were lying in wait for the vehicle at around 3.45 am. The accused who noticed them, tried to reverse the vehicle and sped away, but instead, they rammed the vehicle into an electric pole and damaged it. The accused then fled the place.
Five male calves and one female calf were made found huddled into the vehicle.
It is said that the animals were being taken to an abattoir. Locals said such trafficking of cattle has been going on in the Shankernarayana police station limits of late, and urged the police to take stringent action against the guilty.
A complaint has been in Shankernarayana police station. Police have registered a case, seized the vehicle and further investigations are on.
