Mangalore: Suspicion about possessing explosive materials - Khadar seeks accountability

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, Sep 16: State health minister, U T Khadar has expressed the opinion that there is a need to look into in detail, about the episode in which Abdul Khader from Uppala, a passenger who had arrived at the local airport to board a flight bound for the Gulf region late night on Saturday, had been suspected to be carrying explosive materials.

He said that a request will be made to the central government to conduct a detailed investigation into the basis on which suspicions had been expressed about this air passenger and the shortcomings if any in handling this entire episode.

The minister said that on the face of it, it was apparent that Abdul Khader was not in possession of dangerous substances.

"The affected persons as well as the people in general want to know who was responsible for projecting as if the passenger was carrying explosives, without properly giving a thought to the issue, and also who was to blame for this entire episode. To ensure that such incidents do not recur, a detailed inquiry needs to be held. Prima facie, negligence on the part of Jet Airways personnel is apparent. It also appears that the security staff had shown undue haste," U T Khadar said in a press statement issued on Tuesday September 16.

Everything is okay detention interrogation and investigation, it is their (CISF) duty and responsibility if they found anything suspicious with the passenger they should go through it (detention, investigation etc. etc.) nothing wrong in detention of passenger and investigation but how come they jump in to conclusion that he is terrorist and he belongs to Syrian terrorist group (oh my god) without proper investigation and even prior to bomb squad investigation, media published without any authenticity and it spread like a viral. But here the question from UTK and general public is how they d terrorist and even they d this terrorist belongs to Syrian terrorist group without proper investigation so my opinion is we need to investigate those who responsible for declaring terrorist etc. either CISF or media so it should not be happen in future to other passenger and we are not requesting the investigation to one who investigated and detained the passenger. But sorry few readers are commenting blindly without understanding the fact and without justice.

Dear U.T. Khader, sir, you are respected even by the BJP supporters for the humanity you show. It is a humble request, please stay away from these kind of issues.
Well, sir, coming to the point, hydrogen peroxide can be explosive if not handled properly. It has the legacy of sinking even the missile proof submarines. It doesn't require a huge quantity but a single leaked is enough to cause catastrophe.
CISF deserves appreciation. It is because of their 24x7 service our flight safety is enhanced. Please don't demoralize them.
It is possible that some of the Jet staff or a co-passenger leaked the news to the media.

In my humble opinion, media must be restricted from reporting incidents such as acts of terrorism & riots. They must be denied access to the affected places, since their reporting can cause more harm, as it happened during the Mumbai terror attack.
Finally, the affected individual has all the rights to take legal action,if he wish, as it is proved that he has no affiliation with any terrorist outfits.

However, unbearable hardship caused, and loss of image to the innocent passenger is deplorable.

In the matter of safety security have to be suspicious and extra cautious. this type of false alarms may happen in future also.
Problem is without thorough investigations, false news spread like forest fire.
May be security wanted to show that they have done a wonderful job.

But we have to take care that while safeguarding our SECURITY the innocents should not be made scapegoats, that is our concern. Security officers are well trained personnel and they should know whether the subject items are explosives or not. Who gave the fake news to the media and for what! Is the media projected themselves? or.......... please comment.

    Dear Daijiworld Commentators,

We just want to say that innocents may it be from any community should not be troubled. Studying the circumstances and looking at the way the entire episode was projected, We have a reason to doubt that if there is some kind of hidden strategy is being carried out by anti social elements to tarnish the image of muslim community!

Please read carefully the clear statement given by the Minister Shri U.T. Kader, and do not jump in a haste. Minister U.T. Khadar has expressed HIS opinion that there is a need to look into in detail, about the episode in which Abdul Khader from Uppala had been suspected to be carrying explosive materials.

He said that a request will be made to the central government to conduct a detailed investigation into the basis on which suspicions had been expressed about this air passenger and the shortcomings if any in handling this entire episode.

Mr. Kader also said that "The affected persons as well as the people in general want to know who was responsible for projecting as if the passenger was carrying explosives, without properly giving a thought to the issue, and also who was to blame for this entire episode. To ensure that such incidents do not recur, a detailed inquiry needs to be held.

The above statements is very clear through which if the action is being taken, everybody will know the facts and the game plan of the anti social elements to disturb the peace in the society.

Security staff being responsible, they should know to differentiate between the explosives and the electronic tabs. Even if they have doubts about the tab and the liquid they should properly check the materials and then come to the conclusion without any haste in commenting.

Who gave the fake news to the media? Is anybody involved in supplying this fake news to media or media itself projected their own fake news! How the tarnished image of innocent Abdul Kader will be compensated? What if this happens to your own brothers?

The media paid a big price already for the over joy they had for reporting 'we did it' attitude.
The passenger had all trouble just because the sniffing dog alerted with alarm.
They could have asked him to open the bag and remove the TAB,and once they remove the TAB and SCAN the bag again entire doubts would have been cleared. Instead everyone treated him as a terrorist and delayed his journey.
The CISF is not trained properly and does not have any idea how to scan the baggage.
I was forced to check in my hand bag just because I was carrying 5 cc empty bottles samples. To my surprise the CISF 3 stars on his khaki shirt officer telling me that he would have allowed me if the bottles had a content inside and cannot allow them because they are empty.

It is very evident from the first news that the passenger had pulled it on himself , rather than the CISF personnel harassing him. The security staff had done his duty.Had the passenger told the truth , this incident would not have happened. Further , " Ignorance is not an excuse" under law. In fact , it is an eye opener for all air passengers that one should know what he is carrying. The minister's statement looks like either a political gimmick or interference in security matters. Terrorists generally come in disguise not openly. So , the suspicion of the security staff is perfectly justified. Responsible people like ministers are not supposed to exert such indirect pressure on honest security personnel . CISF need co-operation to do their duty and they deserve appreciation for averting any unforeseen eventualities.

I appreciate,Minister's intervention in the matter.First of all its easy for reader to question. The passenger trusted his friend and carried the parcel on trust. So question that the passenger should have known the contents is not appropriate. Of course he and all should open the packet before taking its responsibility. Secondly the airlines staff should be careful in handling such cases. All are not terrorists. Some of the airlines staff at the counter are very rude which I have experienced. This is not good. The passenger should have been taken to a room, checked the packet rather than alerting the world. Media needs just a point to explode. Now the mental trauma this passenger will have to bear. Hope, matter is put in order and person concerned is sent for counselling.

What a stupid press statement by U T Khader. I really dont understand what is Jet Airways role here? Again, he is a health minister and not Aviation minister. Aviation minister should initiate the probe and find out what went wrong. Also, Mr. Khader (passenger) did not comment on this subject, why this man is trying to further mess-up the issue, which is already messed by the Media.

Dont you see the irresponsibility on the part of educated passenger.

Did the minister investigate the lady properly and will he be holding her accountable for all this drama.

I honestly feel that, the CISF staff played their role rightly. Yet, if the minister feels that, they are not trained enough to handle the situation regarding proper frisking, checking hand baggage, then he must make arrangement to train them well. Additionally, his ministry was in power for the last 10 years and did not act then...

Point I want to highlight here is that, many passengers are begging to the CISF staff for allowing them to carry the items, which are forbidden to carry in the hand baggage, by giving simple excuses. Many of you might have noticed this. Additionally, It is clearly mentioned in the ticket that you allowed luggage limit, yet people bring extra and engage in argument with the counter staff? what do you say about this.

Hydrogen peroxide is a chemical compound with the formula H2O2 and concentrations of hydrogen peroxide on a flammable substance can cause an immediate fire. (Google help)

Security check and subsequent developments which took place in Mangalore Airport itself must have saved him from worse situation he would have had to face upon arrival and when checked by customs/security personnel in Dubai.

Excuse me ? Where is Jet Airways staff involvement in the entire saga ? It was CISF team who found an electronic item in passenger's possession and upon questioning, the passenger denied existence of any such thing. His denial itself gave caution, moreover, a bottle with liquid too was found inside the unit made the suspicion even robust. What can one make out of this ?

However, who asked this minister's opinion anyway ? What is this - publicity gimmick or vote bank politics ? Has he ever contacted the woman (and her associate in Dubai) who sent an object by hand, though carrying liquids by hand are prohibited ?

What if it was indeed an explosive material and the security team by-passed it, finally causing air-crash or hijack drama ? How would the minister have reacted then ?

What do we actually want ? Secure travel or a lapse here and there and make the journey a final one ?

Dont you Minister, they particularly ask "all electronic items into a separate tray"? if he had done that , would there a question of harassing him? he then said, some tab given by some one, and it had polythene filled with TAB's liquid (which puzzles me still)!!!....

if you need to blame anyone, BLAME MEDIA!!!! if there indeed was Bomb or explosives, these issues to be dealt with secrecy, do avoid panic and pandemonium... area quardened off from media.. then come n brief the media!!!
