Mangalore, Sep 15: Engineers Day Celebration 2014 was an occasion to mark the 154 birth anniversary of Bharath ratna awardee M Vishveshwaraya, in Bejai church hall, Bejai, here on Monday, September 15 at 5.30 pm.
The programme began with invocation and lighting of lamp by the guests on the dais.
The programme was organized jointly by the Institution of Engineers (India), Mangalore local centre and Kodagu, Dakshina Kannada and Udupi Engineers association.
This year the Engineers’ day Honour-2014 was conferred to engineer M S Nagar MIE, B Padmanabha Rai, consulting engineer, Mangalore, Anil Hegde consulting engineer, Mangalore and engineer Shrikantha S Rao NITK Surathkal.
Prof Dr Radhakrishna S Aithal, an eminent faculty and administrator of Shri Madhwa Vadiraja Institute of Technology and Management, Bantakal, Udupi in his address said, “Vishveshwaraya was a man of dignity. He always carried two candles with himself; one for private use and another for government works. He was a role model and am inspired by his values”.
He further said that today knowledge is power. Higher education is the power house of knowledge. World class Engineers are those who commit their innovative mind to invent and continuously update their skills and knowledge on every day basis. Institutions must upgrade the teaching methods. There must be flexibility in course designing. The innovative ideas of young engineers need to be appreciated and supported and not rejected because they are the future of the nation, he added.
Dr S Shirihari chairman, IEI, MLC, Dr Rajesh G D’Souza secretary IEI, MLC, Dr Thirumaleshwara Bhat working president of KDKUEA and M Divakar Shetty secretary KDKUEA among other engineers were present on the dais.
Students of various engineering colleges displayed their new inventions during the programme.
