Mangalore, Sep 14: In another major breakthrough in busting gold smuggling, the officers of customs at Mangalore International Airport on Sunday September 14 recovered gold worth over Rs 31.73 lac hidden inside a Jet Airways flight No 9W531 that arrived from Dubai.
The gold was found concealed in two packets wrapped with black insulation tapes, affixed behind the mirror of the rear toilet of the aircraft.
The gold was found during rummaging of the Jet Airways flight that arrived from Dubai at 8.45 am.
Each of the packets was found to contain tola bars/biscuits, and totally there were ten tola bars/biscuits weighing 1166.7 grams, valued at Rs 31,73,424.
This is the second major seizure at Mangalore International Airport involving more than one kg of gold during the last one week, effected by the officers of Mangalore customs. Further investigations are on.
