Mangalore, Sep 14: A woman has been arrested for allegedly kidnapping a youth and demanding money from him with the help of seven male accomplices at Bolar here.
The accused, Shama alias Shamshad (25), residing near Jeppu market, allegedly kidnapped Mohammed Yusuf alias Asgar (25), a resident of Pandeshwar who has a mobile phone shop in Deralakatte. Shama also reportedly demanded Rs 25,00,000 from Yusuf.
Her male accomplices have also been arrested. Mohammed Nawaz (33) of Hoigebazar is said to be the prime accused who assisted her in executing her plan.
The other accused arrested are Amit Raj (24) of Emmekere, Bolar, Nasir (34) from Faizalnagar, Nitin Kumar (33) of Bolar, Ashraf (28), a resident near Kankanady market, and Sunil Kumar (38) of Pandeshwar.
It is said that Yusuf came to know Shama about a month back through a person called Aftab. As per the complaint, on September 11 night, Shama asked Yusuf to come to the mall at Pandeshwar. When he arrived there, Shama asked him to drop her to her house located near a supermarket close to Mangaladevi. After dropping Shama, when he was about to drive away, Nawaz and the other six accused came towards him and forcibly pushed him further into the car and drove him away to Emmekere maidan and then to a cement godown.
They reportedly told him that they were aware of 'immoral activities' he had done with Shama and demanded Rs 25 lac and threatened to kill him. They also allegedly assaulted him. They later left him with the car near the RTO and escaped in two bikes and and Alto car, it is alleged.
Acting swiftly on Yusuf's complaint lodged on September 12, Pandeshwar police led by inspector Dinakar Shetty and PSI Mohammed Sharif arrested all the eight accused within 24 hours.
The police seized a car and two bikes from the accused. They were produced in court on Saturday September 13 and remanded in judicial custody.
Meanwhile, Shama too lodged counter case with the Pandeshwar police alleging that Yusuf had sent her lewd messages and even coaxed her to have physical relationship with him, which made her hatch this plan, she said. The police said that investigation in this regard is on.
It is learnt that Shama first contacted Nawaz and he called the other accomplices. Nawaz is into real estate business, whereas another accused, Amit Raj, is a rowdy sheeter, police said.
Incidentally, Shama's husband also is in jail presently. He was recently arrested for commiting serial thefts.
