Kundapur, Sep 13: Gangolli police have arrested a group of four persons for allegedly illegally transporting cows.
The arrested have been identified as Mohammad Anif (35), Abdul Rahman (27), Hussain (31) and Abu Mohammed (30).
Police, after obtaining definite information, stopped their Omni vehicle at 11.25 pm on Friday September 12 and on questioning found two cows in it. The rear seats were removed to make room for the cows. As the cows were apparently pushed and huddled into the vehicle, one cow had died.
The cows were being transported from Aloor to Gangolli. It is said that the accused had indulged in similar activity in the past also.
It is said that if not for the timely action by the police, the locals and members of a moral policing outfit would have thrashed the accused.
The dead cow was buried near the police station.
The operation was led by Gangolli police inspector Govardhan. Further investigations are on.
