Mangalore, Sep 11: Assistant director of the tourism department Jitendranath and computer operater Anusha were caught red-handed by Lokayukta while taking bribe here on Thursday September 11, at Lalbagh City Corporation commercial complex here.

The tourist department offers Rs 2 lacs as financial help for people from the backward classes who want to buy taxis and start their own business. A person from Puttur who did not wish to disclose his name is said to have alerted the Lokayukta after Jitendranath and Anusha demanded bribe while applying under this scheme.

The person had applied for subsidy under the scheme on March 20. As per the procedure he was supposed to get a printed copy of the sanction letter but on September 2, he received a call from a girl stating that she was from the tourism department.

Jitendranath then spoke to him and allegedly demanded Rs 15,000. But when the person refused to pay up as he did not have that much money with him, they reportedly asked him to give Rs 10,000 and then later came down to Rs 7,000. On Wednesday September 10, the person informed the Lokayukta about the bribe, and a plan was hatched to catch the officers.

The Lokayukta police on Thursday arrived at the tourism department and caught Jitendranath and Anusha red-handed accepting Rs 7,000 as bribe and took them into custody.

Sources said that the tourism officer did not touch the notes that were dipped in a special solution, but the complainant had recorded their conversation, which will be considered as evidence. It is said that the girl who had spoken to the complainant over the phone has agreed to give evidence against the officer.

Lokayukta team led by sub-inspector Vijaya Prasad and Dilip Kumar conducted the operation.

Further investigations are on.

these Public servants including semi govt departments and PSU banks employees and their family, has an attitude of using all the facility given by the government, to the extent possible. the Government in good faith has given them reservations, preferences and concessions in so many ares like education, food, housing, medical, conveyance, travel and retirement benefits.
Inspite of all these benefits, there are thugs who rob the general public in the name of bribe and try to be dishonest with the Government i.e their employer.
such people are a curse to our society and need to be punished severely.
No leniency is to be shown to them.

Mr. Prakash you rightly said. Highest corruption in whole Karnataka is in registration offices.I think lokyukta has to have one special counter at registration office. I am sure more and more transactions will conclude specially of common and elderly people. Otherwise Tahashildar never available in the DC Office.Hope lokyukta department will take notice of this and come out with some solution soon.

Most of our Govt departments are lifeless and there is nobody to make them robust and vibrant.
Most of these departments under perform and exploit/pocket a portion of the fund allotted to these Govt departments.
The public should come out and create NGOs at every Govt department to boost their officials and to check their staff activities and to see that they are transparent and efficiently performing.
    Jai Hind!

Why no one is caught in Social Welfare dept (Samaja Kalyana dept) in Zilla Panchayat building where there is rampant corruption. Maximum number of loans and subsidies are disbursed through this Social welfare dept to SC/ST & Minority beneficiaries and nothing moves in this office without paying hefty bribe.

OurTourist Dept is one of the most under performing corrupt one. Do they really know what their role is ? what is their primary duty? What changes they are supposed to bring into the society? All they are interested in,is Bribe and keeping their job. Due to their poor handling, tourism in our state is suffering. Every one needs to go and make way for young talented, dynamic team who can implement methods to bring in results. Take a look at what Kerala did?
Why not in Karnataka. If you cant do yourself, follow others.
