New Delhi, Sep 10: The Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed for banning the movie 'Finding Fanny' for the use of the word 'Fanny' was dismissed by the Delhi High Court, today. The petition claimed that since the movie used the word fanny which is a oft used slang, it was inappropriate to be allowed to be used so openly.
Judges E.G Rohini and R.S. Endlaw said that they didn't share the sentiment outlined in the PIL and did not find anything wrong with the title. Additional Solicitor General Sanjay Jain, in his opposition to the plea said that the film had been declared fir for viewing after due consideration, since it was devoid of obscenity. Therefore he opined, the title too was innocent and the word Fanny was used someone's name and not as a slang as said in the PIL.
The PIL challenged the UA certification that the movie was granted. Nandini Tiwari and NGO Jai Jagriti Foundation who filed the PIL, claimed that the word fanny had a sexually explicit meaning in the dictionary and would therefore hurt the sentiments of many. Ms. Tiwari further said that such words should not be allowed in films and TV as they are liable to pollute children's minds.
The movie, set to release this Friday features an ensemble cast consisting of Naseeruddin Shah, Dimple Kapadia, Pankaj Kapoor, Deepika Padukone and Arjun Kapoor. Ranveer Singh who plays Deepika's husband in the film makes a brief appearance.
Here's hoping Finding Fanny finds success.
