Udupi, Sep 18: The Hiriadka police have arrested two chain snatchers within 24 hours of theft at Kanajar near Karkala here on Sunday September 17 morning.
The police had registered a case as per the complaint lodged by one Shweta (23), daughter of Sadanand Nayak of Palethoor House of Kanajar on Saturday September 16 night. In her complaint she had stated that some unidentified person had snatched her gold chain and an ear stud while she was on her way back home around 6.30 in the evening. The total value of the stolen ornaments was stated as Rs 15,000.
Based on the information provided by her, the Brahmavar circle inspector Dinesh Kumar, Hiriadka police sub inspector along with their staff arrested Suresh Purusha of and Sudhakar Jogi of Sacharipet near Mundkur of Karkala. During the interrogation they confessed the crime.
Sudhakar Jogi sat by the side of the road signalling Suresh Purusha about the movement of people. Suresh followed the victim from behind, at one point he crossed the victim, immediately turned back and snatched the chain which Shweta was wearing. When she started shouting for help, he held her neck with his hands and demanded her to handover all jewels.
But the police managed to nab them based on information provided by the victim, within 24 hours of the theft.
