Mangalore, Sep 15: In a massive drive against filaria, the district administration will distribute DEC (di-ethyl carbamizine) tablets to 14,59,444 people, said district health officer Dr Jagannath while addressing a press conference here on Thursday September 14.
The drive, covering people in Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) limits, Mangalore Rural, Bantwal and Puttur, will take place from November 11 to 13.
Giving statistics, he said that the city has been worst affected with as many as 1200 cases reported so far as against 64 in Puttur and 140 in Bantwal.
The tablets will be distributed by 4,950 persons and 484 supervisors. Training will be provided to all team members, including medical members, staff and SHG members.
Presently, free treatment for filaria is provided at District Wenlock hospital and in Ullal. Another centre is on the cards at Puttur if the administration gets enough resources.
