Kundapur, Sep 5: A pregnant woman who suddenly went missing from her home in Kundabarandadi village in the taluk on the morning of Thursday September 4, was found dead at Gangolli port here on Friday September 5.
Baby (22), who was eight months pregnant, did not leave any clue why she decided to abandon her home unexpectedly. On Friday morning however, Baby's body was found lying on the seashore in port area here. The exact cause of the death is yet to be known.
Baby, it is gathered, had married a person named Suresh 16 months back. The neighbours say the couple ostensibly did not have any serious differences and lived harmoniously.
At around 4.30 am on Thursday, she suddenly went out of her home without informing anyone, and the family members realized this at 4.45 am. They called her cell phone immediately, and could understand that it was ringing. After 5 am, the cell phone could not be reached, and it began giving 'not reachable' messages. This created a sense of urgency and concern among the villagers. The villagers from this and nearby villages got involved with extensive search for the woman, but did not succeed in their task. After a frustrating day, the fire brigade was called in the evening. The firemen scoured three ponds nearby for her body without any success.
Baby's husband, working for a tile factory in Mavinakatte vilage near here, also functions as a daily deposit collection agent for a financial institution. He was close to his wife, and the two looked to be leading a happy life, it is gathered.
The police are yet to conclude whether this was a case of suicide, although circumstances point to this possibility. But there are no apparent reasons for her to take this extreme step, at a time she was about to bring another life to earth, the policemen and neighbours argue.
