M'lore: Protest against non payment of compensation in Moodbidri

Mangalore, Sep 1: Prashanth, son of Nellikaru resident Vasanthi Poojarthi had drowned accidentally in the river at Uppinanagdi on June 11, while leaving the last remains of his father in the river as per the religious customs. As his family has still not received compensation, there was a protest in front of the Nellikaru grama panchayat office on Monday, Sep 1.

In the protest held under the aegis of all India employees union, Sudatta Jain, founder of the union said that there are no safety measures in the temple river coming under Uppinangady department of Religious Endowments. It has caused the death of Prashanth. Prashanth's family should soon be paid compensation, he said.

“Even though a youth of Nellikar died and an appeal is submitted for compensation, the local MLA has not come forward to take any action. We condemn it”, he said urging the MLA to do the needful.

An appeal was submitted to Nellikar Panchayat PDO Dinesh Naik. Grama panchayat president Saroja and vice-president Satish were present.

Sangha's Moodukonaje Zonal president Mahendra Mayilodi, Padukonaje zonal president Vijendra S P, affected Vasanthi Poojarthi, leader of protesters Shekar Moodaru, Dinesh Poojary and Nellikar Brahmashree Narayana Guru Sangha office bearers participated in the protest.
