Mangalore: PFCCU begins functioning at MRPL

Mangalore, Aug 30: Newly erected Petro Fluidized Catalytic Cracking Unit (PFCCU) began functioning at Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd (MRPL) here as part of the third phase expansion project of the refinery.

The production capacity of this unit is 2.2 million metric tonnes. This is the second such unit in the entire country. The products of this unit will have 20 percent polymer grade propylene and 25 percent liquefied petroleum gas.

Technology for this product has been bought from Techchip Stone and Webster International Company, while Engineers India has executed the project. With this, the LPG production of MRPL will be trebled. It is learnt that this unit has now reached stabilization stage, and LPG, naphtha, and light cycle oil are being supplied to respective storages, said director of the plant, Vijay Joshi.
