Knee injury forces Jorgensen to quit

Copenhagen, Aug 29 (IANS): Third seed Jan O Jorgensen of Denmark withdrew from the Badminton World Championships due to a knee injury.

Jorgensen said Thursday he felt a tear under his knee cap in the match against Chou Tien Chen from Chinese Taipei, and he knew right away that something was wrong, reports Xinhua.

After struggling through his first game 9-21, Jorgensen received treatment but that proved to be useless. He retired from the second game at 4-9.

"The whole dream of winning and playing the World Championships suddenly burst," the depressed 26-year-old told a press briefing shortly after.

"I've prepared so well and this was the worst thing that could ever happen. It was really tough not to be able to present what you've wanted. I am very sad," he said.
