Panaji, Sep 7: Famed International singer Remo Fernandes would India’s musical ambassador for the India – south Africa- Brazil summit starting from next week.
A special Indian evening hosted by Indian Government will have Remo performing a multi-lingual and multi-faced musical performance laced with Portuguese.
The evening will have VVIP guests including Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, South Africa president Thabo Mbeki and Brazil’s president Luis Lula da-Silva.
Taking time from his rehearsal for the show, Remo spoke to this reporter. “I am excited about the visit. I have never been there (Brazil). Being a musician, Brazil’s music has a strong influence on me alike Goan music,” Remo said.
“I have special plans for the show. Throughout the show I will interacting with the audience in Portuguese,” said Remo, who is fluent in Portuguese language.
This Goan son will not forget his ethos and will present Goa’s folklore. Besides this, his evergreen hit “Maria Pita She” and Pop songs like “Humma Humma,” “Oh Meri Munni” and Bombay City, will regale the hi-profile audience.
Labelling his show as “contemporary cultural presentation”, Remo will have Bansuri solo (flute) and Guitar, which will sound like Sitar.
Says Remo, “Being in an erstwhile Portuguese colony like Goa, we used to listen to Brazilian music in Portuguese rather than Portuguese music in Portuguese. Brazilian Songs have become an integral part of Goa’s folklore.”
