Panaji, Sep 7: While Bina Ramani was flown to Delhi by morning flight, Goa police have added another task to their hand to check the legalities of her Goa assets.
“We will probe into all her assets in Goa with forgery angle. Crime branch is already on their toes,” deputy inspector general of police, Ujwal Mishra, said.
Police confirm that Bina owns a house and a boutique in Candolim village, 20 kms away from Panaji. Tucked between queen of beaches Calangute and Baga, Candolim village had become the second home for Ramani’s who owned their business venture here.
Goa police, who had joint operation with the Delhi police’s special investigating team (SIT), had to search for Bina yesterday before she was apprehended at a roadside restaurant in Candolim.
DIG Mishra said that Goa police knew that Bina was staying in Goa but were waiting for Delhi police to arrive to arrest her even after non-bailable warrants were issued against her. “Investigations are conducted by Delhi police hence we required their presence,” DIG Mishra shot back.
Ramani, clad in a white kurta, was brought to the women’s police station in Panaji after her arrest last night and was interrogated for almost one-and-half hours before producing before local judicial magistrate first class (JMFC) to take the transit remand.
After spending a night in police custody, Bina was flown to by first Delhi flight.
“We have not sealed her properties in Goa… we are just investigating,” replied DIG Mishra.
This is not for the first time that Goa police were left red-faced for not being able to nab the accused and wait for their counterparts from elsewhere to do the job. Notorious criminal charles Shobhraj was arrested by Mumbai police team in 1980s by laying a trap at O’Coqueiro restaurant at Porvorim.
Goa police, however, refuse to concede their failure. “I commend Goa police team for their action… It was a joint operation in which Goa police too participated,” the DIG said.
