Margao, Sep 5: Education Minister Luizinho Faleiro has hinted that the English subject for the primary schools might not be made compulsory henceforth.
 
Introduction of English subject in the Std I had given rise to agitation across Goa, with demands to cancel the English subject as it would be a burden on the students.
 
Speaking to Daijiworld correspondent, Faleiro said that he would leave the option to the parents whether they wanted their children to be taught the English subject or not.
 
Education department will send the letters to all parents, framing the details of why English is necessary in this era and how it will help their children in their careers. "We will also mention the percentage of drop-out students of Std V, because of lack of English knowledge," he said further.
 
According to Faleiro, when a student gets admission to Std V, he finds the English subject tougher as he had not learnt basics of English in primary schools, in which case English is necesssary.
