Los Angeles, Aug 21 (IANS): Actor Mark Wahlberg is set to star in "Deepwater Horizon" - a cinematic retelling of the BP oil disaster that occurred in the Gulf of Mexico in 2010.
J.C. Chandor is directing the film, with Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mark Vahradian co-producing it. Script is written by Matthew Michael Carnahan.
The adaptation will focus on the infamous incident in which BP's oil ring caught fire and exploded, killing 11 crew members and resulting in the largest offshore oil spill in US history.
It is believed that Wahlberg will play the assistant manager of the rig who tried to save his men. The movie will primarily focus about what happened behind-the-scenes in the 48 hours leading up to the day of the disaster, reports contactmusic.com.
