With Ganesh idols being worshipped in most of the Hindu houses in the state, there is a different kind of feeling and enthusiasm in every individual. Along with worshipping at home, there are a number of public Ganesh mandals in the state including the local police stations, which are worshipping Ganesh on a bigger platform, locally they are called 'sarvajanik ganapati'.
valpoi, Mapuca bazaar, Bicholim police station and Pernem are some of the famous centres of 'Sarvajanik Ganapati'. Ganapati idols are normally worshipped for 1 ½ days, 5 days, 7 days, 9 days, 11 days and 21 days.
All 'Sarvajanik Ganapati' are usually worshipped for 11 days and thereafter immersed in the river water. The immersion ceremony is locally known as the 'visarjan' ceremony.
