Mangalore, Aug 8: Dakshina Kannada district Kannada Sahitya Parishat president, Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, said that about 100 railway employees will be acquiring communication skills in Kannada after undergoing a training programme run under a scheme of teaching Kannada to people from other states that is being implemented in the railway station here.
He was speaking at the training camp in Kannada which began at Mangalore Central railway station here under the aegis of the district unit of Kannada Sahitya Parishat and the department of Kannada and culture on Wednesday August 6. He observed that the employees posted in Karnataka will succeed in extending a good service only if they are able to communicate in the regional language. He said that 60 classes will be conducted to acquaint the staff with Kannada language.
Sriranga, senior manager Corporation Bank, said that the programme of making the bank staff hailing from other states and working in Karnataka conversant with Kannada had achieved 90% success. Assistant director in Kannada and culture department Chandrahas Rai, felt that frictions can be avoided if the staff know the local language.
Railway area manager P K Dasan, railway official Kishen Kumar, principal of Badriya PU College Dr Ismail and several others were present.
