Udupi, Aug 7: Policemen from Shirva station took into possession two buffaloes, which were found to be illegally transported to Kerala from Karkala in a goods tempo.
The incident occurred at Sooda in the taluk on Wednesday August 6 morning. With regard to the incident, a person named Suresh (32), resident of Moodudaddu in Pilar village has been taken into custody by the police. The policemen said that Jaggu, who was in the tempo at the time, fled from the scene before he could be arrested.
Ashok, station house officer of Shirva, during morning rounds, was inspecting passing vehicles, when the above illegal act was noticed. The market value of the buffaloes involved has been put at Rs 40,000. The police personnel are on the lookout for a person named Ibrahim, who
reportedly had loaded the cattle into the tempo.
The buffaloes were later handed over to the supervision of the cow shelter functioning at Neelavar in the district. Shirva police have undertaken a detailed investigation into the incident.
