Mangalore, Aug 7: MLC Ivan D’Souza visited seven auto rickshaw parks in several places in the city on Wednesday August 6, and after listening to the grievances of the drivers held a discussion about them with the officials of Mangalore City Corporation.
He visited auto parks at Hampankatta signal, Wenlock Hospital, Unity Hospital, Karavali Circle, Kankanady Circle, and near Father Muller's Hospital and spoke about the facilities that are required in the park and listened to the problems of the drivers.
D’Souza said that there are plans to build shelters for auto stands and said those will be built with the funds being received as MLC and with the co-ordination of the police department. “Rickshaw drivers have urged paving of the stands with interlocks and provision of drinking water facility,” he said and assured that their request will be fulfilled with the co-operation of local corporators.
“The auto drivers here are sincere when compared with other places. It is our duty to provide them the necessary facilities,” he said.
“The rickshaw stands near Fr Muller’s Hospital, Karangalpady market, Attavar KMC, Forum Mall, Laxmibagh near PVS, Milagres, and R K rickshaw park are inconvenient and should be made better by laying interlock,” said Shekar Deralkatte, secretary, Rickshaw Drivers’ Association, and submitted an appeal to that effect.
Corporators Pravin Alva and Asha D' Silva were also present.
